Capabilities

First, it’s important to understand that the primary focus of Hometown Sound is on small or emerging musicians and bands in the San Angelo area. We’re a one-man operation with a garage-sized inventory of equipment that specializes in small- to moderate-sized venues, not a monolithic production company with a warehouse full of gear that can accommodate high-visibility shows in large arenas and stadiums.

With that in mind, we can handle any “normal” sized band in any “normal” sized venue. But in the interest of clarity and confidence, our capabilities are described below.

Artist Accommodations

We can handle large bands of up to eight members, possibly more depending on the number of instruments, vocalists, and monitors needed.

  • 32 Input Channels
  • 16 Output Channels (only 7x monitors available)
Vocals
  • 4x Shure SM58
  • 4x Shure SM57
  • 7x microphone stands
  • Artist may bring their own, if preferred
Guitars
  • Electric, acoustic, pedal steel, ukulele, others
  • Direct Boxes: 3x Active, 2x Passive
  • 4x Shure SM57 and 3x PGA57 microphones for backline
  • Direct connection from balanced output (bass heads/cabinets and modelers)
Percussion

Full microphone set for a typical drum kit:

  • 1x Shure PGA52 for Kick
  • 5x Shure PGA56 for Snare/Toms
  • 2x Shure PGA81 for Overhead for Cymbals

Can accommodate cajóns, bongos, steelpans, handpans, and other percussive instruments using PGA52, PGA57, SM57 (or built-in pickup, if equipped)

Pianos, Organs, Keyboards, Synthesizers
  • Balanced stereo preferred (where available), unbalanced mono acceptable.
  • Dedicated monitor will be provided, but artist is welcome to bring their own.
Brass, Woodwinds, Others

Limited only by number of microphones available,
unless equipped with pick-up, or artist provides own microphone

Guitarists and bassists are expected to bring their own backline, unless they are using a modeler or processor with a Lo-Z output (balanced or unbalanced).

Artists are welcome to bring their own microphones, microphone stands, in-ear monitors, music stands, tablet clamps, drink holders, et cetera.

Venues

We can handle just about any small- to moderate-sized indoor or outdoor venue in bars, pubs, restaurants, country clubs, community center, wedding halls, warehouses, parking lots, and municipal areas such as parks and other public venues.

Indoor

Up to ~3,000 ft² (assumes 8-12’ ceilings)

Outdoor

Up to ~1,800 ft²

Areas are a rough estimate and not a hard limit — in general, any typical area that can host around ~200 patrons can be accommodated. If there’s any concern or doubt about a particular venue, please contact me with details.

Venues are expected to provide electrical power, and if outdoors, provide shade or cover as necessary. Electric power from portable generators is only acceptable if it can produce a pure sine wave (most consumer-grade generators are modified sine wave, unless explicitly marked otherwise, and therefore unsuitable). Additional requirements will be described in your contract and are negotiable.
